Tribal Consultation Notice - Draft DHS Environmental Justice Strategic Plan

Description
In alignment with Executive Order (EO) 13175, “Consultation and Coordination with Indian Tribal Governments,” Presidential Memorandum “Memorandum on Tribal Consultation and Strengthening Nation-to-Nation Relationships” of January 26, 2021, and per the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Tribal Consultation Directive and Instruction, we invite your Tribe to consult at one of two consultation meetings scheduled for July 8 and 10, 2024, via Microsoft Teams. We also request any written comments on the attached draft Plan by July 22 to DHSEnvironmentalJustice@hq.dhs.gov. More information is available in the attached Dear Tribal Leader Letter.
With the guidance of the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) and pursuant to EO 14096, "Revitalizing Our Nation’s Commitment to Environmental Justice for All," DHS is revising its Environmental Justice (EJ) Strategy (Fiscal Year 2021-2025) to meet Administration and Secretary goals. As part of this effort, the Office of the Chief Readiness Support Officer along with the Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties issued a Request for Information in the Federal Register in December 2023, held three national, virtual listening sessions in January 2024, and presented at two national conferences to solicit feedback on the current EJ Strategy and discuss new goals and objections for its revision. As part of this public outreach and engagement, DHS committed to consulting with Federally recognized Tribes on our draft EJ Strategic Plan (attached), which we hope to finalize later this year.
