Background

On May 23, 2025, President Donald J. Trump signed Executive Order (EO) 14300, “Ordering the Reform of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.” EO 14300 requires the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to take a number of actions to help provide the American people with safe, abundant nuclear energy. The NRC is taking action to meet the requirements and timelines of EO 14300.

Meeting Information

The NRC will hold a virtual government-to-government meeting with Tribal governments on December 10, 2025, from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. ET. This meeting is the rescheduled session originally planned for October 8, which the NRC postponed due to the government shutdown. NRC staff will provide an overview of the following proposed rulemakings, consistent with the agency's rulemaking process:

• NEPA Requirements Revision
• Expedited Pathway for Reactor Licensing via DOE
• Licensing for Microreactors
• Modernizing Reactor Licensing & Siting
• Security Requirements Modernization
• Contested Hearings
• Enhancements for Licensing & Oversight
• In-situ Recovery Monitoring
• Modernizing Packaging Certification Requirements

NRC staff plan to hold a separate government-government meeting on Radiation Protection Framework Reform at a later date.
