The Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA) is one of several laws created to safeguard archaeological and cultural resources. What sets ARPA apart is its requirement for collaboration between law enforcement officers and archaeologists at crime scenes. The role of the archaeologist in this partnership involves producing a comprehensive Damage Assessment Report and determining the monetary value of the damages incurred at archaeological sites.
In this webinar, participants will gain a basic understanding of the purpose and methodology behind ARPA damage assessment fieldwork. This webinar is intended mainly for archaeologists and cultural resource specialists.
The webinar is offered free of charge. Archaeology Southwest, as part of a cooperative agreement with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, is actively seeking CRM firms and contractors with work or lived experience in Indian Country to assist with on-call damage assessments and site restoration projects. Interested participants can contact Shannon Cowell at scowell@archaeologysouthwest.
