NATHPO Congressional Briefing on the Permitting Reform Bill

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 (10:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

The National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers NATHPO invites Members of Congress and their staff to attend a virtual briefing on S. 5653, the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2006 (BAAJA).

The recently introduced BAAJA is reported to be moving quickly towards a vote in the Senate. This legislation will have far-reaching impacts on sacred and historic properties across the United States. In order to ensure Senators and Representatives have a clear understanding of the implications of BAAJA, particularly on the sacred places and cultural resources of Tribal Nations, NATHPO is inviting Members and staff to join us on Friday, October 28, at 10:00 AM ET for a virtual briefing. Members of NATHPO’s leadership and legislative team will be joined by Tribal Historic Preservation Officers (THPOs) and other experts to discuss the effects of this bill, as well as the ready path to commonsense solutions that will address the problems of inefficiency in federal permitting without endangering sacred & historic places and cultural resources.

You can register for this virtual briefing on Friday, October 28, at 10:00 AM ET HERE.
