Managing Protected Areas in a Changing Ocean:

Why scientific research is key to informing climate considerations, Part 1

Nov 7, 2025 11:00 AM EST

This two-part webinar series will explore the key research findings and management implications from Lenfest Ocean Program’s ‘Managing Protected Areas in a Changing Ocean’ portfolio. Climate-driven changes are causing significant shifts in marine ecosystems, threatening key habitats and species that people all over the world depend on for food security, livelihoods, and cultural wellbeing. While many countries have designated Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), managers are asking for help to grapple with how to adapt to a changing climate and ensure MPA resilience. In response to this need, in July 2023, the Lenfest Ocean Program launched a series of projects in its “Managing Protected Areas in a Changing Ocean” portfolio. In this first session of the series, speakers will share local and regional case studies from the Northeastern United States, Eastern Tropical Pacific, Dutch Caribbean, and Senegal to showcase new and different approaches to managing MPAs through a climate lens.
