NATHPO Board of Directors Informational Webinar

June 27, 2024 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM (EDT)

Description

It's election season at NATHPO!

Please join us for an informational webinar about the NATHPO Board of Directors! Open to all NPS approved THPOs regardless of membership status. **Please note: only members in good standing can nominate, be nominees, and vote BUT you can join NATHPO at any time!

Please consider nominating yourself or another outstanding member THPO from within your region. Under NATHPO bylaws, Director terms last for three years. The Board shall be comprised of one Director from each Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) region (Alaska and Northwest regions are combined). For more information on BIA regions click here. For a map of regions click here.

The nomination period opens Monday, June 10, 2024, and closes Monday, July 8, 2024. Nominators may only nominate candidates from their own region. Current Directors are also eligible to be re-nominated. If you are interested in volunteering your time and service to the Board or if you would like to nominate another NATHPO member, please complete the nomination form and submit by email to valerie@nathpo.org. Please include a brief statement in support of your nomination.

The Board of Directors plays a vital role in NATHPO’s success. Serving on the Board provides the opportunity to have a direct voice in how NATHPO carries out its mission. Each Board Member is responsible for representing her or his BIA region as well as providing support, insight, and advice to NATHPO’s Executive Director and staff. We are looking for nominees who are willing to actively participate in advancing NATHPO’s goals. We understand how valuable your time is, and we do our best to ensure the time you spend with NATHPO is impactful and efficiently used. There is a regular time commitment of a few hours per month, and our members often choose to contribute more of their time to initiatives of their choice.

Board Member responsibilities include:

  • Participate in monthly virtual meetings of the Board;
  • Help shape NATHPO priorities and the direction of the organization;
  • Participate in fundraising;
  • Participate in the annual conference;
  • Participate in ad hoc committees as needed (e.g. elections, conference planning, etc.);
  • Provide oversight of the annual budget;
  • Advocate for membership;
  • Report NATHPO activities to Tribes in your region and bring Tribal concerns to the Board;
  • Serve as ambassadors for NATHPO and its mission with Tribes, agencies, and partners; and,
  • Contribute content and/or input with NATHPO trainings, workshops, and other initiatives.

The NATHPO Board is a place for you to make a difference. Your commitment to the Board of Directors ensures representation for your region’s interests in the work we do. Even though we are an organization, we see NATHPO as a community to serve one another in the THPO family. Community is vitally important, and the Board is critical in bringing the family of THPOs to life. We are stronger together!

If you are interested in learning more about NATHPO and the Board, please join us for a webinar via zoom June 27, 1:00 pm ET to discuss Board responsibilities and duties. This is an exciting time to play a critical role in strategic decision making that will shape the organization for years to come.
